Plaquemines Parish residents have filed a class action lawsuit against the state and operators of the Belle Chasse Bridge for charging "excessive" toll fees against drivers.
Three Plaquemines Parish residents filed the lawsuit in the 25th Judicial District Court against the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, bridge developer and operator Plenary Belle Chasse and Kapsch TrafficCom, operator of the tolling system under Plenary, for charging drivers roughly $6.8 million in fees on about 600,000 transactions since tolling began last May, about $1.6 million more than the amount of actual tolls they've collected in the same amount of time.
About 86% of those fees come from a $25 administrative fee applied to certain bills, the lawsuit states. Drivers are also charged a 3%
