Lubbock High freshman Amelia Anderson finished second in the Region I-5A girls cross country meet to lead the local contingent that qualified for the UIL state meet after Monday's competition at Mae Simmons Park.
Anderson, the District 3-5A champion, ran the 5K course in 18 minutes, 26 seconds to finish behind Aledo's Molly Garrison (18:07.0). Monterey's Hannah Hughes grabbed a state berth with a 10th-place finish in 19:28.7.
