KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A 10-year-old girl was hit by a Kia sedan on Magnolia Avenue in Knoxville Monday evening, according to KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland. It happened near a city-identified trouble spot for crashes.
Erland said the girl was hurt trying to cross Magnolia outside of a crosswalk near Olive Street around 6 p.m. That girl was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for serious injuries, he said, but is expected to survive.
Magnolia at Olive sits less than a quarter-mile from a stretch of Magnolia the City of Knoxville’s “ Vision Zero ” initiative has identified as having a "disproportionate amount of serious crashes."
The city’s aim with the program is to use policy and infrastructure to make the most dangerous stretches of road in Knoxville safe
