The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a warning as older people risk missing out on cash. The DWP is set to distribute millions of payments in the coming months, with many pensioners receiving up to £300 each.
Those born on or before September 21, 1959, and residing in England or Wales during the qualifying week (September 15-21, 2025) will be eligible for the payment. However, the DWP is cautioning individuals not to respond to text messages, as they could be tricked out of money.
In a post on X, previously known as Twitter , the DWP stated: "If you get a text about the 'Winter Fuel Payment' or the 'Winter Fuel Allowance', it is a scam. Winter Fuel Payments are automatic, you do not need to do anything."
