Ontario’s Big City Mayors has penned a letter to Premier Doug Ford outlining modifications the mayors are willing to make to keep the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras project going.

On Monday, the Ontario government tabled a red tape reduction bill to remove speed cameras and replace them with speed bumps, roundabouts and other traffic calming measures.

The bill comes on the heels of Ford’s comments on Sept. 25, where he said he wanted to get rid of speed cameras, calling them a “cash grab” and municipalities have “seen how easy it is to make a quick buck.”

Earlier this month, Ford said he is not willing to work with individual mayors who have asked him to keep the program, with some added tweaks.
