James Gunn's DC Universe is just getting started, but audiences should not expect to see a certain famous villain anytime soon. The DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" took a big step forward in 2025, with Superman and Peacemaker season 2, as the franchise is resuming in 2026.

During a new interview with New Rockstars , Gunn was asked if Darkseid is being eyed as the big bad for the DCU franchise. However, the DC Studios co-CEO commented, "Using Darkseid as the big bad now is not necessarily the thing... because for a lot of reasons. Zack [Snyder] did it so cool in his way and because of Thanos and Marvel."

Darkseid made his live-action film debut as part of Zack Snyder's Justice League cast , the four-hour cut that was the original vision for the filmmaker in 2017.
