A 22-year-old woman was found dead inside a hotel room in San Diego's City Heights neighborhood, authorities reported Tuesday.

Officers responded around 9:55 p.m. Monday to reports of an unresponsive woman who appeared to be deceased in a room at the La Cresta Hotel located at 4980 El Cajon Blvd., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said the woman was found suffering from trauma to her upper body in the room, where she was pronounced deceased. Her name has not yet been released.

"Due to the woman's injuries, San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and are investigating this incident," the department said in a statement.

The events that led to her death were unclear, police said.
