Sherrone Moore heard the grunts and groans from the stadium, but it wasn’t going to sway him.

Facing fourth-and-1 from the Michigan 27-yard line on Saturday, the Wolverines head coach opted to punt the football away in hopes of pinning Washington and flipping the field.

One play later, linebacker Cole Sullivan jumped a route and intercepted a Demond Williams Jr. pass to break a 7-7 tie.

“I think I remember saying (on the headset), ‘they’re going to be mad at me, but we gotta punt this. I’m not doing that,’” Moore said Monday night on the “Inside Michigan Football” radio show following his team’s 24-7 win. “Everybody on the staff (responded), ‘yes, absolutely.’”
