DECORAH, Iowa – A Georgia man convicted of killing a teenage girl in northeast Iowa will spend at last 35 years behind bars.

A jury found James David Bachmurski, 66 of Swainsboro, GA, guilty of second-degree murder in the March 2017 death of 15-year-old Jade Marie Colvin.

Bachmurski was sentenced Tuesday in Winneshiek County District Court to 50 years in state prison, with a mandatory minimum of 35 years before becoming eligible for parole. A new investigation into Colvin’s disappearance began in 2022 when the U.S. Marshals notified the Winneshiek County Sheriff's office about Colvin's case after they learned her last whereabouts may have been in Decorah.
