Grady Murphy didn’t expect to win the Intercounty Baseball Association’s award for the top senior player.

Until recently, he never knew it existed.

“I didn’t even know it was an award until the (Stratford minor baseball) banquet, so it felt pretty good,” he said. “We had a pretty good season, and teammates helped me out with that, and the coaches were pretty good. It’s exciting to win it.”

Murphy did it all in his final 18U season.

The 17-year-old slotted into the No. 3 spot in the Stratford Nationals’ lineup. His aggressive approach and willingness to use all parts of the field helped him hit .438 with three home runs, 33 RBI and 19 steals in 46 games.
