COALINGA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A Coalinga man was arrested Monday after allegedly threatening to kill his neighbor and barricading himself from officers overnight, the Coalinga Police Department announced.
Police report on Sunday just after 9 p.m., they responded to the 200 block of Lincoln Street for criminal threats between neighbors.
Responding officers said witnesses told them the suspect, later identified as Richard Lee Smithson, was holding a black rifle he claimed was a .22 caliber one-shot rifle while allegedly making credible threats about killing his neighbor.
After viewing the whole interaction through a video recorded on a witness's phone, police say they attempted to contact Smithson at his home, but he refused to come out. Smithson turned off all the lights and barricaded
