It’s a perfect weather set-up for lake-effect rainfall. Let’s look at when the rain gets going, when it stops and how much will be in rain gauges when it’s all done.

About 10 days ago I wrote about the record warmth of Lake Michigan’s water temperatures .

The warm Great Lakes’ water, combined with a cooler upper-air storm system, is the basic set-up for widespread lake-effect rain over Michigan.

Since this is lake-effect rain, some areas won’t have a large amount of rain, while some areas get another dowsing of meaningful rainfall.

Much of Lower Michigan is still very dry in the deeper soil profile, even after this past weekend’s rainfall .

The lake-effect showers, and even quick thunderstorms, are developing now. These bursts of rain will continue to Thursday afternoon.
