SALT LAKE CITY — A man said to be in his 50s or 60s has died after he was hit by a car in downtown Salt Lake City Monday evening, police said.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Miles Southworth said the crash happened about 7:29 p.m. near 500 S. 300 West. Some road closures were in place on 500 South on Monday night.

The man was initially said to have suffered possibly "life-threatening" injuries and has since died, Southworth said Tuesday.

The driver is said to be cooperating, and police do not suspect the driver was impaired.
