The Franklin Police Department was called to assist after a horse escaped and found its way on camera early Oct. 20.

Officer Steve Small came across the runaway horse around 7 a.m. after several people called to report seeing it trot down Horton Lane near West Main.

It’s more common for larger animals to get loose out in the county, which is the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction, the police department said.

"There’s a lot more farmland out there. Having said that, it’s not unheard of to happen in the city limits. In May 2024, our officers helped rescue a bull that had escaped. We also get calls, almost daily, about domesticated animals, such as dogs and cats," the department said.

The horse was reined in by Small with the help of ranch hands and Officer Erick Lee.
