JO DAVIESS COUNTY, Illinois (KCRG) - One person has died after their pickup truck went airborne and caught fire in Jo Daviess County.

At approximately 9:26 a.m. Tuesday, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle on fire in the roadway on W Stagecoach Trail, about one mile east of Galena.

Upon arrival, authorities found a Chevrolet Avalanche on fire in the roadway due to a crash. Authorities found the driver dead in the vehicle after the fire was put out.

Police say the truck was heading westbound on W Stagecoach Trail. The driver failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road, and crashed into a ditch.

The sheriff’s office says the vehicle hit a tree and went airborne. The truck came to rest in the roadway in flames.
