The Car Nicobar–Kamorta segment of the CANI Submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) had developed a snag on 20th September 2025 at around 3:32 PM, disrupting communication across Nancowry and Great Nicobar for over a month.

Following the disruption, both islands had to rely on limited satellite bandwidth to provide basic 2G connectivity to residents. Some old DSL (copper line) broadband connections were operational, but internet speeds remained extremely slow due to the restricted bandwidth.

Early on 22nd October, just after 1:00 AM, messages began circulating from Campbell Bay reporting that the link had been restored. For some customers BSNL’s FTTH connections have come back online.
