The case against a 29-year-old man accused of killing a male sex worker in Southfield last February has advanced to Oakland County Circuit Court.
At the conclusion of a preliminary exam Tuesday in 46th District Court, Judge Cynthia Arvant ruled there was probable cause established, binding over the case against Robert Ridges for possible trial.
Ridges, 29, is charged with second-degree homicide, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm for the fatal shooting of Jamal “Tahiry” Broom, 29, whose body was found outside the Riverstone Apartments in the 25000 block of Shiawassee Road on Feb. 9. Broom, who was dressed in women’s clothing, was a member of the transgender community, police said. He had been shot once in the head, police said.
