PEORIA COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - The driver of a delivery van was cited after the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office said he veered into gravel, overcorrected, crossed into a closed driving lane and hit an excavator with a worker inside.

Deputies were called around 10:50 a.m. to the 1200 block of South Maxwell Road.

The sheriff’s office said the van hit an excavator and the worker inside the excavator was thrown off.

The worker received a hand injury and a cut to the head and was taken by AMT to a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office said the van driver wasn’t injured and was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and injuring a worker in a construction zone.
