WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Senate committee has passed legislation aimed at preventing mid-air collisions. This legislation was introduced by Washington Senator Maria Cantwell and Florida Senator Ted Cruz. Cantwell serving as the ranking member and Cruz as the chair.
The move comes in the wake of a tragic collision that occurred on January 29, when a Blackhawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines regional jet near Washington, D.C. This incident resulted in the loss of 67 lives, including members of the U.S. figure skating team.
The legislation mandates that nearly all aircraft and helicopters adopt technology that enhances communication of their location with greater precision.
