BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Bangor Public Library is celebrating the birthday of a historical artist and his influence that reigns to this day.
Jeremiah Pearson Hardy, a New Hampshire native who made Bangor, Maine his home was born on Oct. 22nd, 1800.
He had an early start in the world of art when he started engraving at a young age, and without knowing it then, it was quite evident nothing could stand in his way when it came to his craft.
“His family was poor, and to continue with his engraving, he dove on the USS Adams which was scuttled in the Penobscot during the war of 1812 to get the copper off the shop so that he could keep working in his chosen field of art,” said Candis Joyce.
“He was only like 14-years-old at the time.”
