VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - Beloved educator and former Valdosta City Schools superintendent Dr. William Cason died on Sunday, according to an announcement from the school district.

The 84-year-old served as VCS superintendent from 2008 to 2013.

“During his time leading VCS, he guided our district with wisdom, humility, and heart, championing academic excellence, equity, and opportunity for all students,” a statement from the district said.

Cason was an Air Force veteran who earned degrees from Valdosta State University and Georgia State University, according to his obituary .
