COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– This week is School Bus Safety Week in South Carolina.

This year’s theme is “Safe Stops, Stronger Communities.”

State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver touted safety improvements on the state’s school bus fleet including 360 degree cameras, rear-driver alert systems, and stop arms on both sides of the bus.

Officials say they have also cut the average age of the bus fleet in half by purchasing new buses.
