The Hamblen County Finance Committee approved Tuesday a private act to dissolve the Hamblen County Road Commission by August 31, 2028, the final day of terms on that commission.

The request passed commission on a unanimous vote.

The request was approved by the road commission on April 8, 2025 on a 6-1 vote. Upon approval by the county commission, the request will be forwarded to the Tennessee General Assembly to be taken up in the next legislative session beginning in January, 2026.

“The idea of the vote was sent to abolish the Road Commission, not the entire Road Department,” County Mayor Chris Cutshaw said. “(Abolishment) by their own vote is why this is coming before the Legislative Body.”
