More details have been released on the arrest of a Newport Police Department officer Monday who has been suspended from his duties pending an internal affairs investigation.

Officer Brandon Cassady, 38, was charged by Cocke County Sheriff’s deputies with domestic assault and false imprisonment.

Cocke County Deputy Trevor Starnes was called to the Cassady home early Monday morning by CCSO from a request by Newport Police for a report of a physical domestic assault involving NPD Officer Brandon Cassady. When Starnes received the call, both Melissa Cassady and Brandon Cassady had been separated and an acquaintance, Eli Suggs, was at the residence with them.
