HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) - On November 4, voters in Columbia County will pick a new sheriff. Two candidates are trying to replace Sheriff Donald Krapf, who chose not to run for re-election.
One of them is John Rivero. The republican has been with the Columbia County Sheriff's Department for more than 25 years. He says his top priority is dealing the the opioid crisis.
"Target the people that are selling this poison on the street," said Rivero. He added, the second part of his plan is, "to help the people that are affected and grasped by this heavy addiction because that's not a problem we can arrest our way out of."
Rivero sat down with News10 to discuss the issues facing Columbia County.
