GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Those who live on the Coast may have seen homeless encampments while walking or driving down the street. South Mississippi Housing Authority Executive Director Justin Brooks says the sight is all too familiar.
“The challenge of homelessness is as ancient as the scriptures that drive me to serve through my faith,” he stated.
The City of Gulfport recently approved $1 million in grant funding for the Housing Authority to expand its campus on Three Rivers Road. The funding will turn an abandoned building into a Homeless Resource Center.
“That’s why this funding through the City of Gulfport and ultimately through the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development is so vital,” added Brooks.
