Maui police arrested five middle school girls after a 13-year-old boy was allegedly held against his will at Samuel E. Kalama Intermediate School on a Friday afternoon.

The Maui Police Department said “the incident” happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the school in Makawao, when officers responded to a report of an assault involving juveniles.

Police said the boy was allegedly held by the five teenage girls, ages 13 to 14, in a soundproof room near the school’s “Ukulele Room.” He was unable to leave as one girl held his arm, and others blocked the door.

Several of the girls also recorded “the incident” on their phones and after about 20 minutes, the boy managed to exit the room.
