Conceptual plans have been approved for a new site to host the Lake County Fairground, moving the Lake County Fair from Eustis to Tavares and creating a newer, bigger "convention center" space in the central region of the county.

The Lake County Fairgrounds, currently located at Highway 44 and County Road 452 in Eustis, would move to a more than 60-acre parcel in Tavares, located off County Road 448 next to the animal shelter.

The site would be around 40 acres larger than the Lake County Fair's current home, and would feature a 150,000-square-foot events center.

The events center will double as a storm shelter.

"There's a lot of history at the old site, but the old site is very constrained," said Leslie Campione, Lake County Commission Chairwoman.
