Football, as we know it, could be very different as early as next season, at least when it comes to the end of a game.
Why? Well, the NFL is considering implementing a new rule that would replace the onside kick because recoveries have been minimal.
The league isn’t as concerned about the best teams winning as much as the excitement a random game could throw up. It was the sole reason behind the most recent kickoff change, and it’s now why the onside kick could become a thing of the past.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, onside kick recoveries are happening at a lower rate than expected. As such, the league is considering revisiting the 4th-and-15 proposal, which the Eagles tabled a few years ago.
