RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) - The Rapides Parish School Board highlighted the use of artificial intelligence in classrooms and added chaplains as volunteers in schools during its committee meeting on Oct. 21.

As AI continues to shape the lives of everyone around the world, the board will look to approve a new policy on the technology. Board members said that despite concerns, RPSB needs to get on top of the future of AI.

“I highly recommend that, us as a school board, that we get on top of this AI as much as we can, as fast as we can, because the kids will be ahead of us if we don’t,” said Mark Dryen, the board member for District C.

In 2024, the state legislature passed a law allowing for chaplains to serve as volunteers under Senate Bill 123. In the law, school officials would select
