Edmonton Oilers forward Kasperi Kapanen will miss several weeks with an undisclosed injury, coach Kris Knoblauch said Tuesday.

Kapanen crashed into the boards while attempting a hit on Detroit defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker in the first period of the Red Wings' 4-2 home victory on Sunday. Kapanen played one shift early in the second period before exiting for the rest of the game.

"Right now, it's looking (like) up to six (weeks)," Knoblauch said ahead of the Oilers' road game on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators. "He'll be unavailable for a while."

Kapanen, 29, has two assists, four blocks, 16 hits and a minus-2 rating in six games this season.
