Gunter: Public transit powers Michigan's economy

Public transit is the engine that keeps southeast Michigan’s economy running. It is easy to picture buses as a service for people without cars, but that is only part of the story. Transit moves workers to the jobs that keep businesses open and main streets alive. It gets seniors to medical appointments, sustaining hospitals, pharmacies and caregivers. It carries students to classrooms where they gain the skills that will drive tomorrow’s economy.
