WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The city of Watervliet is asking for people to donate money to install a flagpole at the Watervliet Filtration Plant in memory of the man killed in a wrong-way crash on I-787.
Eric Hurley, 38, of Albany, worked at the water department. He was killed in the Oct. 12 crash. His coworkers said he had recently been promoted to chief operator in Watervliet and dreamed of becoming commissioner someday.
The city said the flagpole will also honor the memory of all other water department employees who have died. They need around $3,500. Donations can be dropped off at Watervliet City Hall.
Lewis Thomas, of Coxsackie, was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, and assault in the crash. The 44-year old is accused of heading south in a northbound lane.
