ALBERT LEA, Minn.- The City Arena's Roy Nystrom Rink reopened on Monday, Oct. 20 and organizations like the Albert Lea Hockey Association and Albert Lea Figure Skating Association are glad to have the facility back.
The rink was initially closed as part of a multimillion dollar renovation of Albert Lea's recreational facilities this May alongside the arena's Colstrup rink to make way for floor repairs, an expanded lobby, a new rental area and new cooling systems.
Abby Schumaker, president of the hockey association, says many of her players are excited to get back on their home rink this season, but with work on the Colstrup still underway she worries there may not be enough capacity for everyone who wants to use the space.
