ALVARADO, Texas — Days after 33-year-old Alvarado High School teacher Chelsea Spillers was found dead in her home, her neighbor says the community is grappling with guilt and disbelief.
“I think we're all kind of feeling that, we wish we had known, or we wish we had taken more action,” said neighbor Ashley Crow, who lives nearby.
Police say Spillers died of blunt-force trauma on Saturday. Her husband, Brandon Ashley, was arrested days later, more than 100 miles away in Grimes County , southeast Texas, on a murder warrant.
Ashley’s sister, Amanda, told WFAA she met her brother at a gas station in Corsicana Saturday morning, where he confessed to killing his wife. She said she drove just far enough to make sure she wasn’t being followed, then called police.
