MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A ballot question for November’s election is giving Manitou Springs residents a chance to help decide how to solve a revenue shortfall.
Recently, Colorado Springs legalized recreational marijuana within city limits. Ever since, Manitou Springs officials have said this has led to fewer people spending money on recreational marijuana in Manitou.
In July, there were several proposals to city council on how to solve this shortfall. One of those proposals is on November’s ballot.
Ballot issue 2A asks voters whether the city should be able to increase the so-called ‘amusement tax,’ which is a tax on tickets and admissions fees. Essentially, it would impact the cost for things like the Pikes Peak Cog Railway or other tourist attractions, like ziplines.
