CHAPIN, S.C. (WIS) - Voters in Chapin will be facing an unusual circumstance as they head to the polls to vote in this year’s municipal elections.
Chapin Mayor Al Koon will still appear on the ballot this year, even though he passed away last week , two days after it was announced that he had entered hospice care .
Because Koon passed away so close to Election Day, officials said there was not enough time to remove his name from the ballot.
However, there will still be signs at polling locations reminding voters that if they vote for Koon, it will not count.
If Koon were to win the election, then the first runner-up between candidates Ron Colley and Bill Mitchell would become mayor.
Early voting is open now until Oct. 31, excluding Saturday and Sunday. Click here for a complete
