A small aircraft made an emergency landing in Heartwell Park on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 21, injuring the pilot and a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

At 4 p.m., a small plane landed on one of the park’s soccer fields, the department said. Responding units found the small aircraft resting on its belly with its landing gear broken. The plane’s fuselage, or body of the aircraft, remained intact.

During the landing, the aircraft collided with a woman in her 40s who was in the park. Authorities removed he pilot, described as an elderly man, from the plane. Both were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries and were described as stable, the fire department said. The park is in the area of Woodruff Avenue and Carson Street, west of the 605 Freeway.
