ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Transportation said it has begun gathering supplies for the Livingston Avenue Bridge replacement project.
"We're putting together trusses at off-site, steel fabrication plants, and literally, it's like a puzzle. We're bringing it all in, putting it together and building it together, and every piece is going to fit together pretty nicely here."
The bridge goes over the Hudson River between Albany and Rensselaer Counties. It first opened during the Civil War and is limited by speed and weight restrictions.
Crews are building a new lift bridge. There will also be a new shared-use path that connects the Albany Skyway and the Empire State Trail.
DOT said they intend to work through winter when possible. It is expected to be finished
