PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) - The Town of Plattsburgh Planning Board on Tuesday night considered a request from the federal government to operate an "office and temporary short-term holding/detention facility" in a former warehouse on Idaho Avenue.

Exactly which agency would be using the facility was not specified - though many of the over 100 people who showed up were under the impression that the facility would be used by ICE. The proposal is coming from the General Services Administration (GSA).

The meeting was dominated by the nearly two-hour public comment period, with residents overwhelmingly opposing the idea of a new federal detention facility in Plattsburgh.
