SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (WSAV) — The Effingham County softball team advanced to its fourth straight state quarterfinals on Oct. 21 by defeating Seckinger in Game 3 of the second round of the GHSA state playoffs.
The Lady Rebels battled back from an early deficit. They gave up three runs in the top of the first. In their half of the frame, they answered back with two.
The first big moment of the game happened in the top of the sixth inning. Seckinger trailed 5-3, but had the bases loaded with two outs. On a ball hit to the centerfield wall, two runners scored tying the game at five.
However, the runner from first was called out at the plate in a close play. Seckinger's fans were upset at the call. If the run crossed, the visitors would have had a one-run lead.
