COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Kristin Nelson led the Republican primary election for Alabama House District 38 on Tuesday, capturing 46.69% of the vote but falling short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff.
Nelson received 1,226 votes, while Garrett Dixon finished second with 874 votes, or 33.28%. Micah J. Messer placed third with 526 votes, representing 20.03% of the total.
Since no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, a runoff election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, between Nelson and Dixon to determine the Republican nominee.
The seat became vacant after former State Representative Debbie Wood relocated outside the district due to her husband’s job transfer to Pensacola, Florida.
