The Ludhiana rural police have booked a woman and her parents for allegedly duping her groom and his family of Rs 75 lakh on the pretext of helping him secure a Spouse Visa and Canadian Permanent Residency (PR).
The complainant, Kuljeet Singh, a resident of Racheen Village, told police that his son Harmanpreet Singh married Jashanjot Kaur of Barundi village in Raikot after her family promised after reaching Canada, she would sponsor him for PR. Trusting the proposal, Kuljeet Singh’s family spent lavishly on her higher education, travel and wedding, footing bills amounting to around Rs 75 lakh, police said.
“But, soon after reaching Canada, Jashanjot cut off contact with her husband and started living with another man, refusing to bring Harmanpreet to Canada as promised. She and her famil
