DULUTH — It would have been easy for Duluth Denfeld quarterback Lee Brooks to get down in the Hunters’ Section 7AAAA quarterfinal matchup against Cloquet Tuesday at Marv Heikkinen Field at Walt Hunting Stadium.
In the fourth quarter, needing a score to break a 12-12 tie, Brooks scrambled for a first down. He got up expecting the chains to be moving. Instead, the referees called a personal foul penalty on Denfeld, forcing him into a third-and-21 situation.
Coming out of the huddle, Brooks had a message for junior Keelijah Thomas as they broke the huddle.
“I told him, ‘You want this ball or not, say yes or no,’” Brooks said. “I’ve never heard a no. I know I can trust him and just throw it somewhere in his vicinity and he’ll go get it.”
