Malibu residents were being urged to conserve water Tuesday night and Wednesday while work is performed on the local water system.

According to the city, Los Angeles County Waterworks Districts will be preparing "additional system work" beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday afternoon.

"Water service will not be interrupted, but all customers are asked to conserve water to help maintain system stability," according to a statement from the city. "Please stop all outdoor water use and limit indoor water use to essential needs only (cooking and bathing)."

City officials said residents would be notified when the work is completed.

The nature of the work being performed was not specified.
