Police from Rongram Outpost on Wednesday intercepted and arrested three individuals who were allegedly extorting money from traders while claiming to be members of A∙chik pressure group.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mansrang Ch. Marak, Donstand A. Sangma and John Momin are all residents of Lower Durabanda in South Garo Hills.

Police also seized a Maruti car bearing registration number ML-07-B-3936, which was reportedly used by the trio during their extortion activities.

An investigation is underway to determine whether the accused have any links to other similar cases in the region.
