This October marks the 10th anniversary of the vacancy of 24 Sussex Drive, the home of Canada’s prime ministers from 1951 to 2015. More recently, it was home only to the wayward rodents of Rockcliffe Park. Article content Article content
Since the fall of 2015 our prime ministers have made Rideau Cottage their official residence without a word of complaint that has been made public.
Is it too much to ask of Prime Minister Mark Carney to make a long overdue decision on what to do with 24 Sussex? The National Capital Commission, its owner, has been waiting for the last three years for a decision on whether to spend an estimated $40 million to repair it.
