NEW YORK – Early on during their rebuild of Seton Hall’s basketball program, Kevin Willard and Shaheen Holloway had to deal with “a lot of chaos with some of the players” they inherited, as Grant Billmeier put it.

Billmeier, who was their director of basketball operations, offers an insightful story about their partnership.

One evening Holloway was out to dinner with his wife at the Short Hills Mall. Coincidentally, Willard was eating at the same restaurant.

“Coach Willard saw Sha, but Sha didn’t see Coach Willard,” Billmeier said.

Willard fired off a text to his associate head coach: “We have an issue – get back to campus.”

Holloway could have ignored the text or at least shelved it for a few minutes. He didn’t.
