The debate about pay parity in Bollywood always keeps resurfacing, and now, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra has weighed in on the matter. Citing the example of Deepika Padukone, Sudhir said that if an actress plays an equally important part as the actor, she should be paid as much as he is- especially if they match each other’s star power.
Sudhir Mishra said on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, “Parity means if the woman’s part is as good as the man’s, then she should get paid as much. If it’s more, then she should get paid more. But it’s also got to do with the box office. One thing you’ve to understand is that in cinema, you don’t get paid, you get a share in the profits."
