New Delhi: Since playing in only one format is extremely demanding, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would only benefit if they go through the grind of domestic cricket, says former BCCI functionary Sanjay Jagdale.

The veteran batting duo have retired from T20Is and Tests and are keen to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. But their hopes of featuring in the 50-over mega tournament depends as much on form as fitness.

“The decision they’ve taken to play just one format is tough on them. They’ve both been outstanding in white-ball cricket, but if you’re not playing regularly, rustiness will creep in, like it happened with (MS) Dhoni in the IPL and even with Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden,” former BCCI secretary and national selector Jagdale told PTI .
